The new DF* technology reduces chain influence on rear suspension by allowing freehub rotation before engagement. Tool-free and low maintenance, it lets riders easily adjust bike kinematics for different terrains, optimizing suspension performance and riding characteristics without adding weight.

COMPATIBILITY
The DF technology is compatible with all Ratchet DEG equipped hubs.
ADJUSTABILITY
The DF technology offers 3 setup options: 0º, 10º and 20º.
SIMPLICITY
The DF Technology works without additional parts and requires no
more maintenance than a classic Ratchet system.
HYBRID VERSION
The DF technology is also available for eMTBs in Ratchet DEG Hybrid
hubs with 0 or 10 degrees of freedom.

The DF system resets automatically via wheel rotation and spring pressure, needing no extra components. It allows controlled freehub movement to prevent pedal kickback while maintaining normal hub engagement. Adjustable degrees of freedom ensure smoother suspension performance and better chain management during freewheeling and pedaling.

The new DF technology is also available for eMTBs. Due to the
higher torques in this specific field of use, the degrees of freehub
movement are 0º or 10º. The technology is available as a hybrid
upgrade kit for Ratchet DEG hubs featuring ratchets with 60 teeth.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE REAR SUSPENSION COMPRESSES?
1. The rear shock of the bike compresses.
2. The rear wheel moves around the pivot point.
3. The distance between the bottom bracket and the rear wheel axle
changes. This would not happen if the pivot point of the rear swing
arm was exactly on the bottom bracket.
4. This causes the chain length to change, which causes the crank to
rotate backwards.
WHAT’S THE INFLUENCE ON THE SUSPENSION?
If the crank is prevented from turning, the chain tension keeps the
distance between bottom bracket and rear axle constant which in turn
prevents the swing arm from moving freely and the suspension is not
able to absorb the impact.

«What I love most is how incredibly lightweight it is – it feels like it
doesn’t weigh anything. It’s super easy to maintain; you don’t have to
constantly adjust or replace things. Just a quick clean and it’s good to
go. Taking it apart or swapping the degrees is simple too.
But what really stands out is the feeling on the bike. I can feel the
difference right at my feet – that harshness is completely gone. It just
feels smooth, direct, and efficient. Honestly, I don’t think I could ever
go back to riding without it.»

‘We invent, develop, shape and create, every day. We aspire to engineer leadership, every day. We strive for products that set benchmarks, every day. We help cyclists achieve their ambitions. Every day since 1994, engineering performance has been at the heart of everything we do.’
It all started with spokes. Formed in 1994 following a buyout from a Biel-based wire works with roots all the way back to the 15th-century, DT Swiss AG was founded by Frank Böchmann, Maurizio D’Alberto and Marco Zingg with the vision of becoming a world-renowned manufacturer of bicycle components.

Pioneers of the ratchet rear hub – which still sets the standard for engagement and performance – DT believes that wheels should be built with the entire system in mind, not just constructed from parts built by other brands. Every DT Swiss wheel is entirely made by the Swiss brand with hubs, nipples, spokes and rims all designed and built by them rather than sourced elsewhere.
In 2017 they launched the ARC road wheels, developed in conjunction with SwissSide and renowned aerodynamicist JP Ballard, and the latest generation of these wheels are currently ridden in the pro peloton by Lotto-Dstny and the likes of Caleb Ewan and Thomas De Gendt.

Today, DT Swiss is one of the biggest names in cycling and still strives to develop beautifully engineered products that break boundaries while setting the standard for quality control and reliability.
